Creative Content Types

There are various different types of content, including:

  • Images
  • Videos
  • Written pieces (blog posts etc)
  • Website content
  • Copy
  • Audio content (Podcasts, for example)
  • Social media (which combines some of the above)

As a content creator, it is your job to adapt your content to various mediums for various platforms. You need to be able to tailor your content for your audience, who will consume and explore differently based on the platform.

Let’s take a look at some tips and guidelines for sharing content on different social media platforms.

Social Media Content

With billions of users globally, social media is one of the top ways to reach audiences. Here are some tips for utilizing the features to share and promote your content via the main platforms:

  • Facebook is great for creating Pages, networking in Facebook groups and sharing content. You can upload longer videos here, and connect with other platforms such as Instagram to share content easily.
  • Instagram is best for sharing images, reaching new audiences with hashtags and creating an aesthetic and sharing shorter videos. Ways to engage on Instagram include Stories, which can be used for polls, questions and promoting content.
  • Twitter works for sharing shorter thoughts, videos, GIFs, memes and linking to external content (plus, relevant hashtags for reach).
  • LinkedIn is mostly targeted at networking professionally, so sharing blog posts, educational content, industry specific discussions and so on will provide good engagement here.
  • YouTube is great for uploading lengthy videos, with the most successful content being vlogs, how-to’s, reviews and informational videos.

Website Content

If you have a website and are sharing content through this platform, your approach should be slightly different. You should ensure that you are focusing on your persona, keywords and reaching future fans. The copy on your website should guide visitors to various CTA’s. These could be subscribing, signing up to a mailing list, checking out your content, linking to other platforms and so on. Your website should let visitors know what you do, what your aim is and what you’ve been working on.

Blog Content

Blog content isn’t too dissimilar to website content. Your creative content in this form should support your business by bringing in new visitors. Despite not specifically generating sales, blogs can go a long way in generating trust from visitors. They provide helpful resources and information and are a great way for followers to find out more about you. If you can build a steady fan base of readers, you will likely drive sales. So, be sure to add a CTA in and make it easy for visitors to find.

Analyzing Creative Content Statistics

At this stage, you have hopefully used our previous guides to help plan and create your content. By now, you will have begun (or continued) sharing content with audiences, and are starting to receive statistics. Analyzing these statistics will show you what’s working, what isn’t and tell you all about your visitor’s behavior.

Your analytics can be accessed in the following places for various social media platforms:

  • Facebook: For Page Insights, go to your Facebook Page and click Insights in the top menu (you may need to click ‘More’). This will take you to your Overview.
  • Instagram: Firstly, you’ll need to have a Business account set up. Then, click the three lines in the top right-hand corner, and tap on ‘Insights’.
  • Twitter: Visit analyticsfortwitter.com
  • LinkedIn: Click the ‘Me’ icon at the top of your homepage. Under Manage, click Posts & Activity. You can then see stats for individual posts by clicking on the analytics information underneath your post or article.
  • YouTube: Open the YouTube Studio app. Tap Menu and go to Analytics. At the top of the screen, choose one of the tabs. Click below to see what data each section shows.

Metrics To Track & Analyze

So, how should you analyze these results, and what do they mean?

Firstly, remember what your goals for your content is. This is where you should focus your analysis, and track progress for. Page Views: the number of users that visit your page and see your content.

  • Organic Traffic: the amount of people (or ‘traffic’) that is coming directly from search engines.
  • Audience Growth: New subscribers, followers or readers that are generated from a piece of content.
  • Bounce Rate: How many visitors leave your site after only visiting one page / leave your page quickly.
  • Conversion Rates: How many visitors engage with a CTA (for example, clicking on a ‘Sign Up’ button).
  • Engagement Rates: The number of people that interact with your content. This can be through likes, shares, comments, retweets and so on.
