Welcome back for another installment of Demystifying YouTube Content ID! This time, we’ll be focusing on how the dispute process works – from receiving revenue whilst a claim is ongoing, to how to submit the dispute and what it means. If you’ve received a claim on a YouTube video that features music from Audiosocket, we’ve got all the information you need right here. Let’s go!
What Is YouTube Content ID (Briefly)?
Firstly, we covered this topic extensively in our article ‘YouTube Content ID Demystified’, so feel free to check it out if you have questions.
If you’re strapped for time, we’ll wrap it up quickly. YouTube Content ID is YouTube’s automated content tracking system which alerts copyright owners (such as musicians) when their music is used in YouTube videos. As a creator, you may from time to time receive a claim. It is then up to you whether to dispute or disregard the claim. This isn’t as scary as it sounds! Allow us to explain how it works and what to do if you want to dispute the claim.
How Does The Dispute Process Work?
If you are monetizing your YouTube videos, you will definitely want to dispute any claims.
Claims on YouTube come about because copyrighted music has been used in your video. If you have a license for the music that you’ve used, you’ve paid the copyright owner to use their work, so don’t worry!
If you have used music licensed by Audiosocket and receive a claim, this is because we represent a large and diverse catalog of artists whose work is published by various labels worldwide. This means that there is more than one administrator to confirm your license with. We usually hear back within a day, or sometimes immediately. Don’t panic – we will let you know when the claim has been released. We haven’t had any disputes that have stuck, so you’re in good hands.
If you’re not monetizing your videos, leaving your videos as they are is the best option. This helps artists as both the artist and YouTube will share in any revenue generated. At Audiosocket, we believe that artists deserve sustainable careers, and every bit helps!
How Do I Dispute A Content ID Claim On My YouTube Video?
As mentioned above, if you are monetizing your videos, you should dispute the claim. Here’s how:
- Sign in to your YouTube studio
- From the left menu, click ‘Videos’
- Filter for copyright claims
- Hover over ‘Copyright Claim’ in the Restrictions column and click ‘See Details’
When prompted to explain your claim, simply state ‘This track was licensed through Audiosocket’, and voilà, the dispute process is in motion!
For extra speedy resolution, please submit our Claim Form so that we can help immediately! YouTube has also published this handy video to help, if you need it.
Please note: Whilst the claim is being resolved, ads are still running. Therefore, the revenue earned will be released to you as soon as the claim is released. We’ll be working in the meantime to make this happen as quickly as possible!
